COSHOCTON, OH – Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2008, the pager tones were dropped for the Three Rivers Fire District to respond to a mobile home fire at the intersection of Coshocton County Road 24 and County Road 23.
While firefighters were responding to their stations, Asst. Fire Chief Tim Arnold responded directly to the scene. Also responding to the scene was Walhonding Valley Fire District Chief Mike Synder who has been in the area doing some shopping. Both men found the mobile home well involved and fire shooting out of some of the windows.
As Three Rivers FD personnel responded to the scene with their fire trucks and equipment, a second alarm was requested and the Walhonding Fire District and the Coshocton Fire Department were called to the scene.
As fire fighting equipment arrived on scene, hand lines were quickly pulled from the trucks and the firefighters quickly took to task the extinguishing of the flames. Firefighters entered the home through the front door and mounted an aggressive interior attack. As they moved through the kitchen they pushed the flames back towards the living room towards a wood burning stove. Flames had also extended back towards the rear bedrooms, and firefighters entered through the rear door to extinguish those flames. A positive pressure fan was setup on the deck near the front door to start clearing the dwelling of smoke.
Firefighters continued hitting hot spots and overhaul operations began. The floor was weakened in the living room area and missing in the area near the wood burner. This made for careful walking around in the home as firefighters completed their overhaul.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no firefighters were injured while fighting the fire. The home was considered a total loss and the probable cause was the fire in the wood burner.
Standing by on scene was a medic crew from the Coshocton County EMS and providing refreshment for the firefighters was Tom Dile from the Salvation Army.
