HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - On February 7, 2010 at approximately 1:00 p.m., Hamilton Township 7th District firefighters were requested by township officials to assist with rescuing an injured goose from a frozen lake. The lake was located just down the street from the firehouse adjacent to a damn where many families were enjoying a day of sledding when they took notice to the injured goose.
Once animal control realized that their equipment was no match for the rescue, firefighters utilized twelve foot hooks and a tied off Haligan to start breaking the ice to allow for a boat launch.
After some time, a friend of animal control arrived with a kayak and paddled to the injured goose and successfully brought the injured water fowl back to shore where he was transported to a local wildlife rescue.
Local residents applauded the efforts of all the responding personnel and the one civilian that brought this emergency to a happy conclusion.
