COSHOCTON, Ohio – On September 2, 2008, the Three Rivers Fire District, along with the Coshocton Fire Department were dispatched to 24700 Keene Township Road 26, to a reported structure fire, at about 9:23 p.m. A call into the 911 Center stated that their home was on fire and that everyone was out of the house.
A firefighter that lives near the fire was able to tell from his home that the house was highly involved. After making his way to the scene he found that it was the garage that was fully engulfed in flames. Upon hearing that news, Three Rivers Chief Lynn Powelson requested a second alarm and that he would like to have water tankers from the second alarm companies. Responding to the second alarm was the Walhonding Valley Fire District and the Jackson Township Fire Department.
The Three Rivers Engine 401 was first on scene and reported a working fire in the garage of the home. As Engine 401 went down a very long driveway, they dropped a large diameter hose as a supply line. Coshocton’s Engine 304 arrived on scene and quickly hooked up to the supply line, and began to transfer water down the drive to 401.
Firefighters had pulled hand lines from 401 and were working aggressively on the exterior of the garage. More firefighters made entry into the home through the front door and attacked the fire that had made its way into the home from the garage. The firefighters on the inside successfully pushed the fire back and were able to save a large portion of the home.
Water operations were setup at the end of the driveway. Tankers lined up behind the Three Rivers tanker and began relay pumping to each other and down the driveway to Engine 401. A water source was also established at a nearby creek if needed.
Firefighters continue to hit the hot spots in the garage as firefighters brought in salvage tarps into the home to cover the floors as they began checking for extension in the ceiling of the living room.
No one was injured while fighting the fire and the garage and contents were a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
Assisting on scene was a crew from the Coshocton County EMS and members of the Coshocton County R.E.A.C.T. Also providing help was Tom Dile from the Salvation Army with cool soft drinks and snacks for the fire personnel.
