Canaan Protective Fire Company 76 year member Sylvester "Bill" Walker died on November 29th at the age of 93. He joined the company on February 4, 1931.
Mr Walker was a past Chief serving from 1950-1952 and again from 1957 to 1959. He was the company President from 1948 to 1949. He served for 15 years as a Fire Commissioner and 23 years on the Columbia County Fire Advisory Board. He was President of the Columbia County Volunteer Firefighters Association in 1956.
Mr. Walkers favorite fire truck was the departments 1939 Sanford. It was the first professional truck the district owned and is now at the F.A.S.N.Y. Museum of Firefighting in Hudson,NY.
He attended every meeting until recently due to his health. The fire company was a major part of his long life.
