RIDLEY TWP, PA - Around the lunch hour rush on June 6, 2008, the Vauclain Fire Co., along with Leedom Engine 70 and Holmes Rescue 43, were dispatched to Rt. 291 and Sellers Avenue for an accident with entrapment.
Within minutes, Vauclain, (Rescue 62) arrived confirming heavy entrapment. The driver of a Jeep Cherokee, was trapped in his vehicle and semi-conscious after a dump truck rear ended his vehicle. The force was so great that it caused a four car, chain reaction and collision. The crews from rescue 62 went right to work on stabilizing the vehicle and started the extrication process on the driver's side. Sellers Avenue Command was established by Vauclain's Chief M. Garvin (62-9).
When Holmes (Rescue 43) arrived, crew's went to work on the passenger side of the vehicle. Leedom Fire Co. was on stand by with fire suppression, as well as assisting in extrication. Crews worked to remove the doors, and roll-bar of the Jeep. As soon as the EMS crews were ready, the dash was rolled, and the driver was removed from the vehicle. Tinicum Twp. Fire Co. (sta. 48) was also on hand to assist with extrication. Extrication was well under the 20 minute mark, and a great job was done by all the crews on scene.
Units assisting on the wreck were, Rescue and Engine 62 from Vauclain, Tac 70 from Leedom Fire Co., Rescue 43 from Holmes Fire Co., Rescue and Engine 48 from Tinicum Fire Co., multiple medic units from Crozer EMS, and Ridley EMS (Ridley-7).
