Investigators discuss their findings of the fire.
RENSSELAER COUNTY, N.Y. - On Jan. 4, Rensselaer County 911 dispatched Poestenkill Fire/EMS along with the Wynantskill Fire Dept. to a structure fire at a multi-unit apartment building on Route 66 in the town of Poestenkill.
Wynantskill Fire Chief Dave Wilson arrived on scene reporting smoke showing. Upon further investigation, a fire condition was reported in one of the apartments. He then advised the dispatcher of his findings and requested a second alarm to be transmitted.
First arriving companies from Wynantskill and Poestenkill stretched attack lines to the apartment. When crews forced the door to the residence, they were faced with a heavy smoke condition.
The first crew in made a quick aggressive knock down preventing any further extension.
The one-bedroom apartment had extensive damage. No one was home at the time. The apartment complex had eight other apartments. No other apartments were seriously affected by the fire.
Crews from DeFreestville, Mountain View, Taborton, West Sand Lake fire departments, and North Greenbush EMS were on standby during the incident.
Investigators from the Rensselaer County Fire Investigation Team along with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office were on scene trying to determine a cause. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
