COSHOCTON, OH – On August 28, 2008, a call came into the Coshocton County 911 Center with the caller reporting that a 8 by 12 foot storage shed in his back yard was on fire. At about 10:36 the 911 Center dispatched the Coshocton Fire Department to 2130 Chestnut Street.
Going en route was Coshocton Engines 303 and 304. Also responding to the scene was the fire investigator in 306, Fire Chief Michael Layton in 310, and Utility 309. After arriving on scene, the firefighters found a storage shed, up on a hillside, fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters made their way up the hill to the rear of the residence with a hand line. With in minutes the firefighters had the flames knocked out. By this time the shed had collapsed on itself. Firefighters spread out the burnt material some water could get to all of the hot spots. As an extra precaution, foam was applied to the burnt remains to insure complete extinguishment.
No one was injured, and emergency personnel were on scene for about an hour. The shed was a total loss along with a garden tiller and a power washer. The probable cause of the fire was likely electrical in nature.
Also assisting on scene were two Deputies from the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office.
