Firefighter Schwartz and Hanlon look over the engine compartment
WYNANTSKILL, NY - On July 9, the Wynantskill Fire Department, along with the North Greenbush Ambulance, were dispatched to a vehicle fire at a Main Avenue gas station. When crews arrived they were faced with a potentional dangerous situation because the vehicle was parked within four feet of the gas pumps. Firefighter Adam Schwartz and Past Chief John Hanlon, under the command of Assistant Chief James Schrimer, pulled an attack line and protected the gas pumps from any fire extension from the vehicle. Crews had the fire under control within 15 minutes.
During the overhaul stage of the operation, firefighters discovered a home oxygen machine along with a portable oxygen tank in the trunk of the Plymouth Breeze sedan. The fire was contained to the engine and dashboard area of the vehicle. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
