On Sunday, September 30, the Mount Ephraim Fire Department, Task Force 45, was dispatched at 4:19 pm to 340 Grant Avenue for a report of a dwelling fire. Battalion Chief Anthony Stagliano arrived and assumed incident commander. Incident Commander Stagliano, initially reported to Camden County Communications that he was arriving on location with a one and a half story occupied single family dwelling, wood frame construction, with medium smoke showing from the front of the dwelling. Shortly after, Stagliano advised Camden County Communications to strike the "All Hands" and advised that all occupants were accounted for from the dwelling. Engine 451 was the first unit to arrive on scene at 4:23 pm (four minutes after dispatched). Engine 451 went into service with one - one inch and three quarter hand-line with Firefighter Julian D'Alonzo on the knob being backed up by Firefighter Robert Lombardi, and Firefighter Rich Schepacarter. The crew went in to locate the fire to extinguish and located the fire in the rear laundry room of the dwelling. The clothes dryer caught fire while in use and caused fire extension into the laundry room with a heavy smoke condition throughout the house. A secondary one inch and three quarter hand line was also placed into service to back up the fire attack crew.
Mount Ephraim's Rescue 45 arrived and performed ventilation. The crew then searched for the homeowners two animals that were reported to be still inside. Rescue 45's crew safely removed two unharmed cats from the dwelling. Battalion Chief Jeff Vilardo was interior operations while Firefighter Dennis Brandt was the accountability officer and Captain Mark Campanell was the safety officer. Mount Ephraim's M.E.P.R.I. EMS and Mount Ephraim Emergency Management assisted at the scene along with Mount Ephraim Police. Mutual aid assisted from Bellmawr, Runnemede, Gloucester City, and Audubon Fire Department's as Haddon Heights provided a cover engine back at the Bell Road Firehouse. Bellmawr's Rescue 32 was the F.A.S.T. (safety team). Camden County Fire Coordinator Bill Schaefer assisted at the scene as well as Camden County Fire Marshal, CFM 7, to determine the cause of the blaze. The fire was placed under control by Battalion Chief Stagliano at 4:33 pm (14 minutes after dispatch). No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported. All companies were clear and back in service from the scene by 5:49 pm.
